CreateSpace versus IngramSpark templates for print books

If you have been wanting to check out the CreateSpace templates to create your own print book, the size tables below could be useful. Under the CreateSpace template sizes are the templates provided by Ingram Spark. (Ingram Spark is the print arm of Lightning Source that focusses on self publishing authors and the indie authors' needs.)

A couple of things to bear in mind: the trim size is the actual size of the book once it has been trimmed and bound at the printers. Depending on the genre--fiction or nonfiction, and what type of fiction and non-fiction and who your target reader is will also determine the trim size of your book. Paper color (white for non-fiction and children's books typically, and cream for fiction books) is another consideration as is the number of pages as this would determine the cost of printing each book. Oh yes, then there's also the gutter (the spine) size of the book.)

You can check out a tutorial I did whereby I walk you through using the CreateSpace basic as well as the formatted templates. I also show you why I prefer the basic template. You can watch it here. If you need further information you can also check the CreateSpace page here.

You might feel that the CreateSpace template sizes are limiting, and may want to try using Ingram Spark. (The template sizes Ingram Spark has is below and includes both soft cover as well as hardcover. However if you are starting out there are several needs you may want to consider before going with Ingram Spark. You can watch the tutorial I have on YouTube here.)
